Pearl Jam - Xcel Energy Center 6/27/06

Second night of the Pearl Jam / Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers @ Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, MN. Scored fifth row seats from my Clear Channel rep. We had a thirty minute snafu with the Will Call Booth as they hadn't received the tickets from the radio station. Ten minutes before show time an intern from Cities 97 showed up with the tix. Show was great as expected with both bands performing full sets.

Who Will Stop The Rain?

The hell week in review that is my life. This week a couple of Meth Heads decided to steal two of my new cars off the lot a day apart from each other. I busted the crystal on my Movado watch and my new Rolex hasn't arrived yet. I can't string together enough days where it hasn't rained to seal my deck. The City of Stillwater has turned our quiet little street into a mud bog. I'm two weeks behind in my landscaping duties.
The only bright spot is that we still have HOCKEY! Edmonton forced a game seven. While the rest of the world is watching World Cup Soccer and the NBA Finals they're missing one of the best Stanley Cup Finals. The underdog Oilers have really turned it on. The overtime short handed goal by Pisani to stave off elimination in game five was awesome. The pure dominance in game six was enfuego.
Anyhow, enough ramblings here are a few songs that I pulled off the boob tube this week.

Reo Speedwagon @ The Myth

Went and saw REO Speedwagon last night at the Myth. I scored a couple free tickets from my advertising agency, so thought what the hell. I know only about five REO songs but they have been playing on the radio for over thirty years. The show was really good. They packed a stadium style show into a 4500 seat club. I was suprised how many popular songs they actually had. I got to thinking about when I first remember hearing the REO sound. This was one of the bands that peppered the playlist at WLUP-FM 97.9 "The Loop" radio in Chicago.
Every summer we got passes to the 75th Street Pool in Bolingbrook, IL from 1980 - 85. We swam all day and the older kids would bring their large ass '80's ghetto boxes to the pool. "The Loop" was what played all day.
Funny how a song can take you back twenty-something years! I haven't thought about the 75th Street Pool in god knows how long. A lot of fun summers were held there.

I associate this band with summer. The first time I ever heard Fishbone was at 32nd St. in Newport Beach, CA in the mid '80's. Infectious sound and an all around great band. I did get to see them with the Red Hot Chili Peppers back in '90 or '91.
